The Manchester XPAG tests showed that when the engine was running at relative low RPM under a light throttle, the carburetors delivered a weak mixture. These are typical of the way an engine will run when it is driven on the public highway.

Weak running causes overheating, burned valves and damage to the cylinder head.

More examples of how modern petrol can damage classic engines.

Chapter 7 describes why this happens.
